BABY COLLEGE®: The Building Blocks of Language, is a video which effectively presents the 40+ essential sounds of the English language in the most logical sequence for learning. Watching this video assures that your baby has the experiences needed to develop the brain circuitry for language during this window of opportunity. The Building Blocks of Language follows the natural progression babies go through to learn to talk. It presents the 15 vowel sounds first in isolation, then grouped with consonant sounds. Each consonant sound is combined with the vowel sounds, with the consonant sound before the vowel like this example for the consonant sound 'b': bee, bi, be, bae, ba, bu, bo, baw, boe, boo, boo, boi, bow, bie, bue. Then each vowel sound is presented with every consonant sound like this example for the vowel sound 'ee': eeb, eep, eeh, eem, eew, eed, eet, een, eeg, eek, eeng, eef, eev, eeth, eezh, eesh, eel, ees, eez, eer, eeth, eech, eej. This portion of the video is not only wonderful for babies to listen to, but is an ideal opportunity for you to learn the sounds and how to teach them to your child. The video then progresses to combine multiple consonant and vowel sounds in simple words and sentences. This portion of the video is meant to be played repeatedly. Through repetition and stimulation, your child will develop an enhanced ability to discriminate the essential sounds used in the English language. Babies have very little, if any comprehension of words, (the foundation of words not being developed yet) but they do have perception of manner and tone of voice. The narration in the video is presented in 'parentese,' a term used to describe the 'sing-song' voice parents use to talk to their babies. Studies and tests have proven that babies respond better when spoken to in 'parentese'. When engaging in parent interactivity, and with the use of 'parentese,' your child's reception to you will significantly enhance their ability to learn and grow. For the first month of life, the distance from a baby's eyes to the face of someone who is holding them in their arms is the distance at which a newborn can focus. However, their sense of hearing is comparable to that of an adult, which allows them to tune into the audio portion of the video. As their eyesight develops, the movement of the objects, animals and children in the video combined with the colorful graphics increases their attention and stimulates the development of connections between the neurons in your child's brain. Through introduction and repetition these stimulated neurons will connect with other neurons which can make permanent connections. These connections continue to strengthen and grow, advancing your child's language and communication skills. From birth, your infant's mind is active and shaped by experience. Our goal is to help you guide your child through that experience—understanding that you are the key to their success. By using this fun, easy, and rewarding video you will be sharing in the discovery of your child's world while providing a foundation for a lifetime of learning.
